I’m taking a morning off from my current assignment. Things have been going well with the new contract work. Although I only put in 30 hours a week, 30 hours worth of pure research and original writing is no small task. As with any telecommuting job, discipline is the key factor. You have to schedule your time wisely and avoid any distractions. Easier said than done – since you don’t want to be a household tyrant, who demands that everyone in the home forego their normal lives in order to accommodate your arbitrary schedule. Actually, I have an advantage here. I’m a bit obsessive when it comes to my work. This trait served me well when I eventually became a senior supervisor in my old company (Flextronics). Here, it takes the form of me getting “antsy” while resting up in my room, thinking “I’ll just put in another hour so I can get that section written the way I want”. So, I go downstairs and hammer out another hour. This, coupled with standard 2 hour writing sessions makes 6 hours a day a most do-able proposition. I guess my current employers like my work, since they keep re-assigning tasks to my inbox (which is a good thing, of course). Right now, “Fiddler on the Roof” (1971) is playing on T.V., in the background. I’m having a nostalgic moment while thinking back to my old stomping grounds in Co-op City (Bronx, N.Y.). I think that movie played in the section 4 theater for about half a millennium. Good movie, though. Anyway, Alma is cooking something that smells pretty good, Rancel is in school and I think Elmer is upstairs watching his T.V. I’m thinking of taking a small nap, myself. You know, sometimes – just every now and again – there is a rare moment when everything is OK…

Glad to here everything’s okay with you and yours. Today’s Bypass Day for us. So far so good, but the day’s still going.
Good. I hope all goes well for you and your family…
Good to hear things are going well for you – The Philippines have been in the news here quite a bit (bad storms, mass graves etc), so I do get concerned. Today is Thanksgiving here. I guess I’ll be spending it all on my own, which is fine — I need a rest from the social activity of the last few weeks, I think. Will actually have Thursday & Friday off from work, but that means two days less pay (I work part time, so no holiday/vacation pay), but I’ve not taken any real time off in 7 1/2 years, so the three/four day weekends are as close as I get to a vacation.

Glad to hear you’re taking the time to enjoy the holiday. Fortunately (aside from that flood), the problems out here don’t really affect me. Most of the storm activity and violence issues are confined to the outlying provinces. In Metro Manila, for example, there’s pretty good security everywhere you go (guards with shotguns at gas stations,
for example). Plus, I don’t go venturing out, at night, and I stick to well populated areas…
