Hey – I Can See!

That’s better. New eyeglasses (from the L.A. Looks Collection – whatever that means) and a much needed prescription for Alma (who can now read the subtitles on those insane Hong Kong flicks that she enjoys so much). Oddly enough, they used a computerized scanner to come pretty darned close to the correct prescription, before proceeding with the rest of the eye exam. The exam was free, too. The glasses, themselves, were pretty cheap by USA standards – so that worked out well.

I’m glad that March is a 5-payday month, since the final week will be a bit short. My main client had to cancel about half of this month’s work, due to a glitch with their client database. The good news is – that I picked up another client that pays a whole lot more. The bad news is that it’s not an hourly gig – I finish the project first, before I can request payment (a slow process that is not conducive to a good cash flow). Ah well. I still get to catch up on all my previously borrowed money (in just a month and a half of intensive work, I’m only about $75 in the hole). After that, it should be smooth sailing (even better, actually).

For my part, the only major hassles consist of some Internet outages (every 5 minutes) that my less-than-competent ISP has been delightfully handing me. But every dark cloud, etc. etc… By this, I mean that after working between 57-60 hrs per week, I’m getting a bit of a respite before tackling this new assignment. I have until Friday to complete the trial run they gave me – I intend to be finished by Tuesday. If all goes well, I’ll have a nice stable assignment, out of Miami. We’ll see. Right now, Alma is out riding around with a niece, nephew, their new baby and a mother-in-law. So all is quiet.

Oh yes, I managed to download all the files that I had hidden away on a public server (Adrive.com) – about 3 Gigs worth. Now I have my entire music collection (painstakingly downloaded back when Napster was free – some extremely rare items, as well) and it feels as if I have recovered a part of my soul from the darkness…
