Well.
That was interesting. A major flood in my area with no electricy for 3 days, so far and another typhoon on its’ way.
Though, thanks to one of the nephews with connections in the military, we had a joint effort Air Force and Army Search and Rescue Team show up at our door. They were equipped with a full size inflatable raft and ushered Alma, Chelsea (age 1 yr. 9mos.), Alma’s sister and myself (plus other various family members who came to help) to the main gate of our subsivision (through waist high flood waters). There, we were placed on a military transport that brought us to another location (picking up various others with small children along the way) where we could purchase some provisions and transfer to a tricycle. We then made our way to Alma’s mom’s old home (her brother lives there now). We will be safe and sound (with electricity) when the next typhoon is scheduled to hit, this Thursday.
When all of this is over, I’ll recount the experience on my blog, in more detail. For now, things are stable and I’m glad to have lights at night and a working refrigerator – I just have to get used to bathing without a tub or shower, for the time being… :)

Yikes! I say again. Yikes!
My current locality has been known for floods, but there tends to be a good ten years between them. And no typhoons.
Tornadoes though. And high winds. One year, a particularly nasty storm took out a tree, sending it crashing on top of the family van. Amazingly enough, after the wood was cleared away, it was still in good condition.
But waist high flood water? Never been in it. Hoping I can keep that particular streak alive…
The scary part is that the water in my home area hasn’t subsided and a bigger typhoon is scheduled to hit on Friday.
At least this temporary location has electricity and an Internet Cafe next door. I was in a huge typhoon when I worked on Okinawa – but the Japanese were better set up for those things. At least the government is handing out relief goods and responding a lot faster than the U.S. did with Katrina…
I was hearing about the situation over there and was wondering if you’d be affected. I second that Yikes! I’m sure the situation with your leg made things more difficult (at least this didn’t happen right after you broke your leg).
Rob
Yes, it’s fortunate that I’m able to get around OK, now. I’m just waiting to see what this new typhoon brings…
